A "Try A Dive" is an experience of being fully underwater and taking a shallow dive with the confidence of being with an experienced instructor guide with an absolute feeling of safety and enjoyment.
PUFFIN DIVE CENTRE
Puffin Dive Centre is a PADI Career Development Centre and Gold Palm Five Star Instructor Development Centre. This rating is only awarded to a relatively few centres worldwide who have achieved excellence in educational and training proficiency. Puffin Dive Centre teaches courses from basic entry level right through to experienced instructor levels. We even have the largest range of speciality courses in the United Kingdom! These are courses covering a wide range of diving skills and adventures.
YOU ARE ABOUT TO DISCOVER A NEW WORLD!!
A new experience awaits you while travelling through inner space. A feeling of effortless, weightlessness and the exhilaration of breathing and moving underwater. It really is a whole new exciting world! A "Try A Dive" is an experience of being fully underwater and taking a shallow dive with the confidence of being with an experienced instructor guide with an absolute feeling of safety and enjoyment.
You will escape to a new world with bright colours, unusual beauty and a myriad of fascinating aquatic creatures that will dart and move in the water and sunlight. You will swim with many varieties of fish, crabs, octopus and lots of varied and beautiful plant life. The time will simply fly past as you take your underwater journey. You will learn during a friendly and informative briefing and tutorial before the dive some simple rules about scuba diving that will inform and fascinate you in three very easy steps.
STEP 1 A short talk and discussion about the use of the equipment, some simple hand signals and methods of underwater communication. This will enable you to be familiar with all the things you will need to safely participate and enjoy your scuba dive.
STEP 2 In our extensive equipment store you will be prepared and kitted out in up to date equipment necessary for your first and most memorable dive. All our dives are done in dry suits and no matter if you are big or small , short or tall we have a suit to fit you . This includes a whole range of female sizes and specially designed suits for children.
STEP 3 Under the individual guidance of an experienced PADI Instructor you will be taken gently step by step into the shallow waters of Gallanach Bay and when you are comfortable and when you are ready you will take your first breath using a Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus or SCUBA . Your first underwater breath will be a truly memorable one. You will then with your instructor by your side start your incredible journey.
FIT TO DIVE?
All participants must be in good health. If prescriptions or over the counter medications are regularly taken you should always request a medical form at the time of the booking as your doctor may need to be consulted. Disabilities generally are not a barrier to diving however we do require a GP to approve first. AGE
Provided your health is good there is no upper age limit and SCUBA experiences can start from as young as 8. With some individuals we reserve the right to modify the experience to a more suitable level.
THE PRICE OF YOUR TRY A DIVE
The price for your experience will include your equipment, air, Instructor, all tuition and finally your certificate of participation, together with a Puffin Dive Centre decal. In addition Puffin Dive Centre will refund £50.00 towards the cost of your Try A Dive fee when you book one of our Open Water courses (booking must be within one month of your initial Try A Dive) , junior or adult making your initial experience effectively very cheap!
THE NEXT STEP
This is only a taste of what you can do when diving. The next optional step is to enrol on a PADI Open Water Diver Course which will certify you as a qualified diver, with an organisation which is recognised in over 120 countries worldwide and has over 6 million diving members. A Try A Dive is only a taste of what lies ahead in the world of diving. It is the start of a whole new range of areas underwater that you can get into, from underwater photography through to wreck, ice, search and recovery, boat, night and many more. The certification that you gain when you successfully pass the Open Water Diver Course is yours to keep for life.
AFTER DIVING
We are situated approximately 1 mile south of Oban at Port Gallanach. On site we sell many types of diving equipment also souvenirs and refreshments. Advanced Try-A-Dives, Snorkelling tuition, Guided Stand up paddle boarding and all levels of diver training are all also available after your successful Try-A-Dive. RECOMMENDED "ALSO BRINGS"
It is suggested although not essential to bring a tee shirt, shorts/leggings and spare socks. All of these items may get wet! A towel is a good idea.

Grant - "We wanted to go diving so when we were on hols in Oban we saw we could so we emailed and asked if it was possible they got back to us practically straight away giving us dates,times and prices after a few more emails and a medical form we were signed up and ready to go We got there at 9am met them got out suits,masks and air and Had the best of times we saw plenty of little fish and crabs and they stayed with you the whole time you got 1to1 diving with the instructor them showing you things and helping you I def will be back with my floaty feet to do it again it was brill Dawn and Grant"
Darren - We only booked the day before, so we might have been lucky with availability. The dive shop staff were really helpful. Our 8 yo and 12 yo were so well looked after by Amy both in and out of the water. The briefing was professional, the dry suits fitted well, the mini rigs were super cute and they had excellent 1:2:1 tuition to get the most out of their first proper dive. They loved it and it was brilliant to see them have that experience so young. They now remind me daily how I haven’t yet dived in a dry suit but they have 😂. We couldn’t recommend Puffin Dive Centre enough.
